Wonderful restaurants and activities on the beach and on street. Would definitely stay again. Room was clean and adequate.
Great water pressure, always a plus and beds were ver comfy. Pool was small and somewhat unnecessary for us. Staff were friendly but spoke little English so challenging in that we don't speak Spanish.
Breakfast was great and on beach!!!!! Date of stay: February Rooms. Room Tip: All rooms seemed similar.
Ours did face ocean on 2nd floor but beach just steps away if yours Helpful Share. Realdave1 wrote a review Mar Great location , wonderful service.

We stayed in Deluxe Balcony Room We had heard good things about the Playa Maya, but also saw some questionable reviews online so we were unsure of what to expect.
We were very pleased with our experience in every regard. You have to walk across the beach to get to the entrance, but not really!
Just sneak across the neighboring hotel's deck The Carmen , it puts you right on the Playa Maya's doorstep with only two steps on the sand required!
The Playa Maya is clean and the beds are comfortable. Plenty of hot water and good water pressure. Really good air conditioning as well It isn't high end or luxurious but we were not expecting this.
We spent several days of our trip just chilling at the hotel, eating and drinking and sitting on the beach all day, so we got to know several of the staff members and in our opinion that is where this hotel shines.
The staff are professional, friendly and accommodating! Special thanks to Gustabo, Luis, Michelle and Paul!
We had breakfast at the hotel every day, and the free breakfast is basic, but good. If you want something else you have to pay for it.
I had to have chilaquiles some mornings, and they were excellent. The ceviche is very good as are the quesadillas. The cost of the food and beverage is excellent, inexpensive by beach resort standards.
The bottled beer is cold, the mixed drinks are good as well. Staff service on the beach and in the open air restaurant was very good, although sometimes the staff gets very busy and it's worth walking to the bar to get a drink.
We are good tippers and the staff appreciated it, they went out of their way to assist us in any way. We saw varying beach conditions while were there, it really does vary day to day.
The start of our trip was wide sandy beach, windy and a bit of sargassum in the water the sargassum was much better than previous two years in the area!
The end of our trip saw lighter winds, but some exposed rocks on the beach but the water was clear. That's just how it is, we were in Tulum one of the days and there was much more sargassum there even though that is the opposite of what we expected.
The rocks on the beach are there under certain conditions. They require you to either walk carefully over them, or to walk about 25 feet to go around them.
We've experienced similar elsewhere. You will see lots of comments and even complaints about noise from the neighboring hotel. Here is our experience with that.
The Carmen hotel next door is I guess trying to be a jet set trendy type place. They play music non stop during the day on the beach.
It isn't loud, like pounding, can't have a conversation loud. But it is there and you can hear it. We found it sometimes annoying in that it was sometime bad music, repetitive edm musak type stuff.
When they played good music, which we actually went and asked them to do, and they did! I know, I know, Americans. They have a pool and club area on top of that hotel, we never visited it, we heard it was about what you would expect.
They play music up there as well and it was similar in volume to what is on the beach. They play music at night up top, but not late, stopping at maybe PM?
It's never so loud that it is a bother when you are in your room with the door closed. You can hear it outdoors. We were fine with the volume, if you want peaceful silence, you just aren't going to get it if you want to stay between the piers in Playa del Carmen!
Some fun things we discovered that we didn't know about before staying here: there's Fusion Beach Club about feet south. It's a cool little place, they had an awesome reggae band on Tues or Wed night that is worth walking over and checking out!
The cafe on Calle 8 right around the corner has a good espresso machine and good croissants and desserts owned by friendly people.
If you haven't heard Mike play, go do it, and and every chance you get, he plays all over town, find him!
There's a seafood place on 38th or and Calle 20 or so call el Pirata, very good fresh fish! Looks like the typical tourist trap, and it is, but it's really good food and great place to people watch.
The one drawback we saw, and there's really nothing that can be done about it, is the pool and hot tub situation isn't the greatest at the Playa Maya.
We are more beach people than pool people, but the pool here is small, really almost decorative, although there were family's with kids using it.
If you are pool people, this probably isn't your place. Something we'd recommend to the Playa Maya Hotel: we'd like to see some kind of dinner parties or events in the evening, live music or a seafood feast or something?
Just some evening activity occasionally? Thanks to Stephen Ryberg for helping us book our trip, and thanks to the whole staff at the Playa Maya for showing us a great time!
We hope to be back soon! Sleep Quality. Room Tip: The room description on the web site are accurate, we had a Deluxe Ocean View, and it was that AffordableLiving wrote a review Feb Perth, Australia 6 contributions 3 helpful votes.
Be sooooo careful staying here. We stayed here for only 2 nights as we were passing through on the way to Cancun. The rooms only come with a safe that uses a key.
We had left money, diamond rings, earrings, necklaces and credit cards in the safe one day while we spent the day at Xcaret.
While we were at Xcaret someone went into our room and stole a diamond earring, replacing it with an earring that had a stone missing but the entire earring was a different stud.
They were hopefully hoping we wouldn't notice. They left everything else possibly stole some cash as I didn't know how much I had but there was a lot in there They left the wedding rinds and necklaces as it would be obvious we would know but this hotel has thieves.
They will take them. When I spoke to the hotel the following day after finding out, the manager of the hotel said he was only made the manager today and that the hotel staff had all changes since yesterday.
Not a nice way to treat your guests. Could have been worse they could have taken everything so we still feel blessed.
